My
Space

Recently Barak Obama visited
Quincy during the Flood of '08 and crowds of
people came to see him.
Much like politicians of
today, everywhere Jesus went multitudes of
people pressed in to see Him. Because
Jesus could not physically meet the needs of all
the people around Him, he commissioned His
disciples to preach the gospel and heal people
for Him. He probably didn't form
committees to train them or do fundraisers to
help pay their way, He just sent them out.
The mission of The Salvation
Army is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and
to meet human needs in His name without
discrimination. Sometimes we don't know
how we will get the job done or how we will pay
for it, but we continue to preach the gospel and
meet human needs wherever and whenever they
arise.
Won't you help us and come
join our Army?
'I
tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of
the least of these brothers of
mine, you did for me.'
Jesus

The Salvation Army has
almost completed demolition of the buildings on the
site of the future Kroc Center at 5th &
Broadway streets in Quincy. Documents will soon be
submitted to The Salvation Army's headquarters in
Chicago for approval to move into the Construction
Document (CD) phase of the project. Current plans
call for groundbreaking to begin in late fall of
this year and construction to be completed in 18
months.

Emergency Shelter & Family
Services plans near completion
The Salvation Army is near
completion of the architectural plans for the new Emergency Shelter &
Family Services building. Because the Kroc Center site required
the old shelter to be demolished, a new home was found across the street
in the Inman building at 5th & Broadway. The Salvation Army is
currently seeking help to fund the $2.5 million building renovation.
None of the Kroc grant may be used to build shelters. Naming
rights for the new shelter are available for qualified donations.
Call Patty Douglas for more information at (217) 222-2087.

Thank You!
Thank you to everyone who helped The Salvation Army
during the recent flooding. Volunteers poured in and worked long hours
in the effort. Local businesses donated supplies and restaurants
regularly brought food to help feed thousands of meals to hungry
workers.
