Emergency situations are a common occurrence in any
community, and preparedness for these situations is
part of the work of The Salvation Army. The
disaster canteen is manned by a team of staff and
volunteers who are ready to respond in time of need.
In a
disaster, whether it be
flood,
tornado, fire, etc.,
The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Team
is prepared to provide spiritual counseling,
food, shelter and any other necessities to assist
public safety personnel and victims at disaster
sites.
The
Salvation Army
remains on the scene of any disaster until
the emergency needs are met and services are no
longer needed. The Salvation Army also
provides extended services in major disasters
involving massive cleanup or reconstruction.
New
volunteers to the disaster team are always welcome
and ongoing training is provided for all team
members.

Quincy
Salvation Army disaster teams were sent
to the gulf coast where
millions of meals were served to hurricane victims.
Disaster team members prayed with displaced people
and other disaster workers every chance they got.
In Quincy, hundreds of volunteers
worked together to gather and organize two
semi-truckloads of donations that were
sent to Louisiana.
