Christmas
Events
Bell Ringing Individuals and groups
can volunteer to ring bells at a Salvation Army
kettle. Each year many people are needed to
ring bells from Thanksgiving to Christmas in order
to raise the funds necessary to help provide toys
and food to families in need during the holiday
season. Bell ringing this year begins on
Friday November 16th and continues to Saturday
December 24th.
Toy Town Toys and other donated
gifts are set up in The Salvation Army gym.
Parents walk through Toy Town with a helper and
select new and like-new toys for their children for
Christmas. The distribution date this year is
Saturday
December 22rd.
Angel Tree Tags, listing a childs
age, clothing sizes and toys they would like for
Christmas are placed on trees at the Quincy Mall and
Wal-Mart. Individuals and groups take tags from the
trees, shop for these children and return the items
with the tags to The Salvation Army, who in turn
distributes the gifts to the families. The
distribution date this year is
Friday
December 21st.
Community Dinners Holiday meals are
served at The Salvation Army on Thanksgiving Day and
Christmas Day for anyone who would like to attend.
Good food and a short musical program accompany the
good fellowship around the table.
Transportation is provided for those needing a ride
and meals are also delivered to shut-ins.
Altrusa Coat Give-away Each year
around Thanksgiving The Altrusa Club collects and
cleans coats to be given away for free to needy
children and adults. The coat giveaway this
year is
Saturday November 3rd.
Christmas Baskets Christmas food
baskets are provided for families in need who would
like to cook their own holiday meal at home.
Volunteers are needed to help pack these baskets.
Baskets are distributed this year on
Friday & Saturday December 21st & 22nd.
Bucket Blitz is sponsored by WGEM and
takes place the week before Christmas each year.
Money is collected to help The Salvation Army
provide quality programs and services for those in
need in our community at Christmas and throughout
the year. This year's dates are
Monday-Thursday December 10th-13th.
